Cindy Lou Who Schnibbles

As many of you know, last year I took a quilt class where we made wall hanging size quilts using "Schnibbles" patterns. This year we are doing more Schnibbles but in lap quilt sizes (or larger). Our second pattern was titled "Cindy Lou Who." I wanted to use the Moda fabric line, "Simply Color." I LOVED the color selection but didn't think ahead for this pattern. The pattern was relatively easy to piece but color selection is a must! Because of this, I modified my quilt. But come to think of it, I modify nearly every quilt I make! Lol. So, I guess it shouldn't surprise me. Anyway, I'm posting pics of my fabric choice and my quilt. You'll see my modifications when you see the other classmates' quilts. I cropped out my classmates' faces.... Mainly because I forgot to get their permission to post their faces. I missed a couple of the quilts. It was a crazy day. The last quilt had fabrics that were used in three of the classmates quilts. My favorite outcome, is Judy's, next to last photo. Love those fabrics in finished project.

My quilt is now in the loving hands of Sydneykatt. I think she will vouch for the fact the quilt is much prettier in person. I gave this top to her because she loved it. I hope she enjoys it. It is a very small token of my appreciation for her friendship. Ours was an unlikely friendship but a blessing in all ways. Luv u Sydneykatt. I Spy Quilt

I have been saving novelty fabrics for several years.  I have lovely grandchildren that I wanted to make this for.  I cut out two pieces of every piece for a total of 200, 6 inch squares.  The way it came out, there were 196, squares to make up the quilt.  I had 4 squares left over, and I am going to sew those matching squares on the backside into a pocket.  I bordered the quilt with Dr. Seuss, ABC fabric.  Now, when the grandchildren come to stay all night, I hope to keep them guessing!  There are many games we can play with this quilt.  Matching toys, boats, fish.....everything!  We can look for fruit, vegetables, colors, numbers and I hope we can spend many hours always enjoying this quilt together.  After I pieced this quilt, I took it to my local quilt store and had it machine quilted.  I hope the grandchildren will like this.  What do you think?  Sydneykatt

Curtains?...into Quilt

My daughter-in-law re-did my granddaughter's bedroom this year.  Now, Hannah is a big fan of Dora, but, they wanted to switch things around with new bedding and curtains.  She gave me the two pair of Dora curtains and the print is adorable!  The only problem I saw, was "Boots" was cut in half when he was at the edge of the curtains and I didn't want a half of Boots in the quilt : )  So, I cut all the half of Boots out, unless he was at the edge of the quilt, and then sewed all 4 curtains together.  Took to local quilt shop for quilting, and then I sewed binding on myself.  I am very happy with the new twin-sized quilt for Hannah's new bedroom, I hope she likes it : )  What do you think?  Sydneykatt

1600 inch quilt

What... 1600 inch quilt?  How!  Well.... at a local quilt shop we were discussing what to do with all those beautiful Jelly Rolls we see in the stores.  A instructor told us about a 1600 inch quilt so I went home and searched for it on the Internet.  I found the following websites that show how to take a jelly roll and make a quick and easy quilt.  The 1600 comes from the 40 strips that are in a jelly roll times an approximately 40 inch wide piece/strip.  If you don't have a jelly roll, you can cut 40 strips of your own choice.  Cut them into 2 1/2 inch wide strips the width of your fabric (minus selvages).

Happy New Year! Christmas Quilts 2011

These are the two queen-size quilts I made for my son's and their wives for Christmas 2011.  I love the spool quilt pattern and wanted my son's and their wives to have these quilts for their beds.  It has been hard keeping these a secret all year long, but, with the triplets and my parents, it is a good thing I made them earlier in 2011.  I wish each and everyone reading, a HEALTHFUL and HAPPY NEW YEAR : )  May GOD always come first in your life : )  Sydneykatt

Slow but sure

I finished the actual quilt you see in these pics some time back.  But I've put off hand sewing the binding.  Good thing I don't do it for a paycheck!!!  LOL  It's a large twin quilt and I've worked about 7 + hours finishing the binding.  It's a shame that the camera just doesn't do it justice!!!  It's very colorful and most importantly... my daughter loves it!  I sent it off to be quilted and just love how they added a horse in the quilting especially for my daughter!  She was thrilled by that!!  It was a surprise for me too!  :-)  Theresa from "U-n-I Quilts" did the quilting.  Check our her site.  I was very satisfied with her quilting and her patience in all my questions.  :-)  Hope you are having a successful sewing day!!  --Quiltpecan

The center fabric is a very colorful horse fabric that my daughter bought herself.. her own money.  :-)  She didn't want me to cut it up much.  So that is how the pattern emerged.

University of Kentucky Throw

This is a University of Kentucky quilt throw I made for my brother and sister-in-law's anniversary.  They will be married 40 years on October 15th.  They are great sports fans and especially for the University of Kentucky where my brother graduated from.  Of course, this is one of my favorite quilt designs, the Hidden Nine Patch!  Hope they enjoy it for many years to come.  Sydneykatt

Schnibbles - part 1

Saturday I went to a Schnibbles class at the APRON STRINGS quilt shop in Flemingsburg, KY. They have started a Schnibbles club. I'm going to give it a try and see how it goes. We will meet each month on the first Saturday. Our first pattern to try is RECESS (in the 2011 pattern listing). Each Schnibbles pattern takes 2 charm packs. Almost done....

Remember the 9 patch blocks I featured recently... well, I've got busy with those blocks and I've sewn them into individual rows.  Since I don't quite have enough to make the quilt the size I'd like, I'm going to STRETCH it out by adding a semi-solid type print.  I love how the colors have come together.  And I got so lucky in picking out my fabric.  I forgot to take a sample and made the best guess I could.  Turns out it looks like it's gonna be perfect!!!  Hope you are having success in getting your fall projects started!  Have a great day!  Quiltpecan

Scrappy Spools

Remember Sydneykatt's cool SPOOL quilt in this pic above?  Well... she kept saying I needed one.  She was right!  I've started one and now I'm excited to get it going.  I've made about 60 blocks per the pattern instructions but think I want to enlarge to larger size so I will have more to make.  But here's the start of my work.....  see pics below.  Simple block that starts with 3 squares in different sizes makes this cool quilt!!!  :-)  Have a great day!  Quiltpecan

Yeah for some "Me" time

Spent some much deserved time in my sewing room.  Was proud of myself for getting 3 projects in the works.  Below are the pieces I've cut out for the Hidden Nine Patch (upper right), pieces for the Scrap Therapy Spool Quilt (upper left) and at the bottom is the beginning of a fun mug rug for me.  On the Mug Rug I used 4 five inch squares and my Dresden ruler.  :-)  Feels good to know that I've got these started.  My plans are to finish at least one or more of these projects in the next couple weeks so I can send them off to be quilted.  Enjoy your sewing time.  :-) Quiltpecan

Not Yet Hidden Nine Patch

I have so many things I'd like to do and little time to do it. :-) I know I'm not the only one faced with this dilemma. :-) After a busy work week I sometimes just want to rest but I did go up on Sunday and sew. Saturday ended up being so busy that it was NOT a day off. But Sunday we try to do what we want... non work related if at all possible.

After seeing Sydneykatt's BLUE FOREST Hidden Nine Patch (also called Tossed Nine Patch) I decided to work on some 9 patches that I recently set aside. Here's an IN PROGRESS PIC. I really like the color combinations. Cutting them apart makes them seem even better. That part will be fun.I have enough right now to make a throw.  Debating on whether to make 10 more 9 patches to increase the size to a TWIN.... hmmmm..... Hard to decide because there are so many projects (but not enough time or energy) in my head.   Hope you are having a productive outpouring of sewing! Scrap Therapy

Goodness knows I feel like I can use some therapy every now and then!!  LOL  Remember Sydneykatt's SPOOL quilt?  It is a SCRAP THERAPY brand pattern.  Well, I think I'm going to have to have a spool quilt for myself.  After finishing my daughter's quick horse quilt, I cut some of my scraps into the sizes needed for the SPOOL quilt.  I think I will start on it soon and also another Hidden Nine Patch that I've started in teals and other colors.  Not my usual combination but it's pretty.

Jigsaw Quilt Finished!

This is the finished jigsaw quilt : )  I love it so much because it reminds me of all the great times I have with my mother working puzzles.  Mother is 86, but we have the best of times working puzzles : )  We have been working puzzles every week for a year and a half!  Now, we are picky about what we want to work on.  We like colorful puzzles, bright, and with words if possible.  We love state puzzles and maps and kittens and flowers : )  Nothing drab or dark or all one color.  And, if we are not having fun working on a puzzle, we quit!  We only do the ones we enjoy doing together : )  Sydneykatt

Horse Quilt Progress Report

 Sunday we (DD and I) worked on the Horse Quilt.  I am pleased with the results.  Only thing left (besides quilting of course) is to add the outer border.  I have to get fabric for that.  I have lots of fabric but not in large pieces and I need the length.  DD is very anxious for it to be totally complete.  This project came together easily and it's nice to see a finished product for a change.  :-)  Have a great day!!  Quiltpecan

Quilt Re-Do

I made this "cheater" quilt about 20 years ago for my son.  The border you see around this quilt was actually part of the backing.  He gave it back to me to repair and I had to cut out a torn part, so, I used the backing to make the quilt larger, by adding borders.  The funny part of this story is, when I took it home and took it apart, I thought it was a lost cause and was going to make him another quilt.  So, when I told him about it, he was not pleased!  It seems he is sentimental about this quilt!  How would I know??  So, this quilt re-do, pictured, is what I have come up with and I hope it pleases him, and, I learned, how much he loved an old cheater quilt that his mama made for him : )  Sydneykatt

Jigsaw Puzzle Quilt in Progress......

This is a jigsaw puzzle quilt in progress.  I have been so anxious to start on this and just finally decided, even if I only do one row when I can, that will be good enough : )  At least, it is a start.  The sizes of the pieces are:  6-1/2" x 2-3/4", 3-1/2" x 2", and 2"x2".  It is something you must be very organized, but, the more I am doing, the better I am getting at, some......assembly-line sewing.   I am enjoying working on it a little at a time, and, using up fat quarters.  Sydneykatt

More bugs ....

We were in the sewing room (my daughter and I) and she asked me about all the denim I have.  Which reminded me of a quilt I finished a long time ago.  It was meant to be a picnic quilt.  It's made of denim and I added ants.  The pattern was in a magazine I used to subscribe to.  For the back, I just used scraps of fabric I had and tacked it with embroidery thread.  I love how it turned out.  I had someone offer to buy it way back then but I like it too much to part with it.  --Enjoy!  Quiltpecan

Yo-Yo Quilt

This is a Yo-Yo quilt that a dear little lady made for me many years ago.  She had such a neat design of putting one red yo-yo in the center of each block.  This hangs on display in my living room out of direct sunlight for all to enjoy : )  And, it makes me think of her and her sweet christian spirit.  And, one day, I will see my friend in heaven where she is today : )  God is so good : )  Sydneykatt
